Background

Lay’s Poppables is a fun and upbeat sub-brand under the Lay’s Potato Chip family, made to have extra aeration for a light but satisfying crunch. The branding is designed to reflect the tasting experience through fading halftone patterns, a bright color palette derived from the classic Lay’s brand, and floating products in a transparent bowl.

Challenge

For Spring 2022, Lay’s Poppables wanted to get in the spirit of the blooming season. The challenge was to evoke the excitement of spring while remaining true to the core branding of Lay’s Poppables. These core brand visuals were the halftone pattern, the logo placement, and the illustrated bowl tossing the chips.

Solution

To introduce a bit of spring into the Lay’s Poppables packaging, we started with some simple geometric flowers to tie in with the halftone of the original design. Then the flowers flowed down and landed near some colorful eggs, patterned to match the Poppables halftone theme and more flowers. Lastly, the illustrated bowl was replaced with a festive basket for a subtle change to tie the whole spring theme together.
