Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds

Background

“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” was primarily written by Beatles member John Lennon with the assistance of Paul McCartney in 1967. The initials of the song make the acronym L.S.D., which caused speculation that the song had an underlying meaning of the drug. Lennon denies the ties to LSD, but despite this, the song has gone on to be a staple in the psychedelic genre.

Challenge

Create a typographic concert poster based on the hit song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” performed by a Beatles cover band.

Solution

The main inspiration for the poster were the song lyrics “kaleidoscope eyes” and the underlying meaning of the drug LSD in the song. The composition is a reflecting triangular panel that says “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” repeating as a kaleidoscope would. The pattern inside the psychedelic letters was inspired by pointillism and mixed with the vibration technique in color theory.
